ANCHORAGE, ALASKA
October

South Central Alaska, the home of most of Alaska's population, could also be considered Alaska's playground.
This diverse region includes rugged coast with fertile bays and fjords, agricultural lands, oil and natural gas fields, forests, glaciers, and lakes and streams that are spawning grounds for salmon and other species.
The largest city is Anchorage, with a population of about 260,000. Most of the state's largest businesses are based there, and the city is Alaska's shopping, medical and transportation hub.

Day 1
Leave from your departure city for the exciting city of Anchorage, Alaska.  Upon arrival, the team(s) will pick up their 2-7 passenger vans and transfer to their tournament  hotel for the next 5 evenings, the Comfort Inn, located just outside the heart of the city.  A full continental breakfast is included each morning.
Immediately you will begin to experience the magic of the last Frontier.  View spectacular scenery - majestic mountains glistening glaciers, crystal clear streams and lakes.

Day 2
Free day for the team to discover Anchorage.  You may choose to take a riverboat ride on a grand sternwheeler.  Travel to the Interior of Alaska and enjoy a day of relaxation, great food, colorful river lore and music as you traverse the waters of the Chena or Tanana Rivers. Get a glimpse of historic Fairbanks and stop along the way to visit an Alaskan musher, tour an Athabascan fish camp or experience an Indian village.

Day 3
First day of the 48 team Senior Girls and Junior Girls volleyball tournament today.  Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 7 best 2/3 matches in tournament play.  Teams from all over Alaska will be competing.

Day 4
Continued tournament play today.

Day 5
Today, you might decide to take a helicopter tour of the area to see some of the spectacular mountains, glaciers and wildlife.  Alternatively, you may try your hand at gold panning at mines on the National Historic Register just a short drive from downtown Anchorage.  Whether you have a couple of hours or an entire day, scenic drives offer everything from grand vistas and glacier viewing to cultural sites and up-close wildlife photography.  More than 2,000 moose live in the Anchorage bowl.
